Soaky Siren - Dope Boys

Ahead of the release of her upcoming debut EP titled LUCAYA, which is due out this Friday, Los Angeles-based Bahamian singer and rapper, Soaky Siren, who is also a multi-platinum, Lantin Grammy-nominated songwriter who has co-written hit songs such as Jason Derulo's "Tip Toe", Chris Brown and Rita Ora's "Body on Me", and Pitbull, J Balvin, and Camila Cabello's smash "Hey Ma", has just released an unforgettable new single of her own called "Dope Boys" which sheds light on the darker side of paradise while sill producing pure ear candy. Produced by DallasK, "Dope Boys" tells a tale of then and now where the drug dealer reign in the Bahamas made 'dope boys' rich and powerful only to cost lives and freedom in its ruin. Instead of using her signature fierceness for the performance, Soaky Siren opts for a softer charge in "Dope Boys" and introduces the world to a sweeter tone as she sings the chorus to seal the record with a catchy juxtaposition.

"This was the first song I wrote for my EP and the producer, DallasK, asked me what my sound was. I told him 'urban resort’ and he got it right away... legend. What I meant was the suns out and yea– we’re in paradise but there’s some very real shit going on and for us life is set up differently," Soaky told Ones To Watch. "I leaned on melody and production to serve bright, pop-y energy but the lyrics are an account of a time when the drug trade was lit on my island. There was excess amounts of ballin'; dope boys were building crazy homes, buying mad cars - just blowing bags on everything and of course the girls wanted them. The lifestyle seemed iconic until you saw people gettin' picked off or extradited. It's always been a story I wanted to tell, I just never had a canvas for it until that day."
