Dagny - I Say

Introducing 23-year-old (soon to be 24 - on July 23rd) Norwegian singer/songwriter Dagny Norvoll Sandvik, better known simply as Dagny. Still a completely independent artist, Dagny has built recognition in Norway via her YouTube channel and as live support for some of the industry's biggest names, including opening for Sir Elton John playing to a crowd of over 10,000 people in 2012, as well as exclusively supporting Sting at the Impact Arena in Bangkok later that year. Not to mention, she just recently opened for Canadian superstar Bryan Adams at Clam Castle in Austria.

Having come from a musical background in the far Northern town of Tromsø, Norway, Dagny has already achieved domestic popularity. Now based in London, her sound fully encompasses a lively personality with various moods and shades of her Scandinavian homeland, infusing delicate folk-noir with uplifting pop. Melancholy entwines with feel-good optimism and opens the door to a vortex of beautiful songs and lively charisma.

The last few years have seen Dagny's fanbase blossom having toured extensively throughout Norway and the occasional trip across the pond. She has also played one of Norway's largest festivals, Øyafestivalen and supported popular fellow Norwegian artists such as Maria Mena, Ida Jenshus, Jarle Berhoft, and Violet Road.

Recently, Dagny unveiled the music video for her debut single "I Say", described as "a rose-tinted sneer towards the pressures of youth and womanhood". With its thudding beat that breaks into an uplifting chorus, Dagny’s words beam through with added mockery in the form of a kazoo, background laughter and squeals.

In her own words: "'I Say' encourages you to follow your own gut, instead of living life according to other's expectations. Following some questionable early career advice, a late night studio conversation with the guys found its way into becoming this song."

Dagny's music loosely fits in the 'folk-pop' genre, and her songs are laced with deeper meaning. She has spent the past year actively writing new material for her debut album alongside Ruadhri Cushnan (Ed Sheeran, Mumford and Sons) and Mark "Kipper" Eldridge (Sting) which is scheduled for release early 2015.

"I Say" is due out in the UK on July 28th on Far South Records. In the meantime, you can download her song "Hold On Lucy" (below) for free! Click here.
