DYLN - Rings

Los Angeles-based Canadian singer/songwriter Stef Lang, aka DYLN (pronounced "Dylan") has today released her long-awaited debut album titled Rings which includes her previously released singles, "Blind", "I Want You" and "The Light". A collection of 10 heartfelt and deeply personal songs, Rings is a portrait of marriage - a glimpse of the highs, the lows and everything in between. Exploring intimacy, communication, resentment, and commitment in a pop/R&B soundscape, the album was written by DYLN and co-produced in collaboration with her husband Frequency, who is perhaps best known for producing Eminem and Rihanna's "The Monster". DYLN and Frequency met in a co-writing session in 2011 and continued working together ever since. First living together in New York, then moving from Harlem to Bedford-Stuyvesant, and eventually relocating to Los Angeles in 2018. The couple married in May of last year.

Speaking on the release, DYLN says:

"I wanted to own my age and own my marriage by creating honest art out of it and letting it exist in the world, flaws and all. Women are often made to feel ashamed of their age or relationship status, especially in the music industry. So what if I'm 30 and so what if I'm married. This is where I'm at and this is who I am. The stigma exists because we’ve been taught a man's idea of who a female artist should be; young, sexy, and shallow. In 'Rings', I'm a grown-ass woman, vulnerable and insecure at times, but wildly complex. It was important for me to represent real women as we are. To change the male-painted narrative and show women they can be who they are in their music. And that's exactly what Rings is to me; my life, my marriage, my heart on my sleeve."
