Having first come to our attention earlier this year with their previous single, "Mama's Gonna Get You", Los Angeles-based duo WASI (an acronym for We Are/She Is), comprised of Merilou "Cosmo" Salazar (vocals, guitar, synths) and Jessie Meehan (vocals, bass, synths) now return to present us with their latest indie pop gem called Superhero".
"'Superhero' is about my struggle with my insecurities, and what we'd love to be in our dream world, says Merilou Salazar. It's about being seen."
WASI began in Orange County when the two met in high school. What started out as an INXS cover band eventually evolved into a power pop quartet (joined by drummer Max Mars and guitarist Dylan Robin) fueled by punk-lite elements, high-octane optimism, and a DIY work ethic.
Last year, Billboard premiered their debut EP, Bleed Pop, while PRIDE featured them as one of their "10 Queer Female Bands and Musicians You Need to Know Right Now". Since then WASI have since shared the stage with artists such as Shiny Toy Guns and K. Flay as well as playing select dates on the Vans Warped Tour. WASI recently continued their support of the LGBT community by performing at the LA Pride after party "Queer Rock Explosion" as well as OC Pride and the HER/LA Festival & Retreat.
