Sydney-based (via Hong Kong) singer/songwriter and producer Rainbow Chan has just unveiled her new single along with accompanying music video for "Nest", a compelling first taste of her forthcoming debut album due out later this year via Silo Arts & Records.
With a penchant for blending saccharine melodies and left-of-centre beats, Rainbow weaves her magic within "Nest" - a love song that nods to early Japanese electronic production and modern R&B hooks. Fluttering melodies and warped percussion float within Rainbow’s warm vocals, while the video, a conceptual space of textures and pastels, captivates.
Speaking on the track, Rainbow explains:
"I once met someone who brought to my attention that we never truly touch anything; we only ever feel our atoms repelling one another. At the heart of all intimate experiences lies an insoluble distance. We're led to believe that we're better connected—sharing more content with each other than ever before, displaying pictures of our idealized selves, getting gratification from a few buttons. Yet, I'd never felt more disenchanted. In our climate of fluid exchanges, relationships are like commodities to be disposed of when we're bored or tired. 'Nest' is about gain and loss, our accumulation of the ephemeral."
