Los Angeles-based dream-pop band Satchmode have today delivered what is easily one of this summer's best new gems called "State of Mind", which is roughly four minutes of guitar-driven indie (power) pop perfection that bring to mind some old school favorites of ours like Material Issue and The Posies but with a more modern twist. The new single also serves as the follow-up to their previous track "Undertow", released back in March and another taste of their upcoming debut album titled Love Hz, due out in October.
Speaking on the track, Gabe Donnay says"
"I'm excited to release this song because it shows a new side of our sound that's been evolving over the last year as we've been doing more with live drums. We always perform with a real kit, but this is one of the first tracks where we actually used a full acoustic kit in the recording rather than piecing together electronic and acoustic drums. We typically record everything in a home studio, but we laid down these drums in the legendary live room at Stagg Street Studios (which has been used by everyone from Jeff Beck to the Flaming Lips). That room is particularly known for getting killer, meaty drum tones. Using that as a foundation took the song to a much different place than anything we've done before."
