Doctrin - Heavenly Cross

Australian-born, Los Angeles-based singer/songwriter and producer Dolly Denko, aka Doctrin has just recently shared the music video for her song "Heavenly Cross", one of the many standout track off her 5-song debut EP, The Deep, released last year.

"Heavenly Cross" was born out of Dolly's experience and separation from her Catholic upbringing as a young woman. Invoking themes of female empowerment, sexual liberation, and breaking societal barriers, Dolly smashes through religious paraphernalia as the "good girl" withstands the looming suppression of male dominance. Equipped with Doctrin's signature distorted blues guitar, Dolly layers ominous electronic undertones and her beautifully crisp vocals to bring the dark, but powerful, single to life.

"'Heavenly Cross' music video is a symbolic piece about growing away from the teachings of the Bible and its outdated 'rules'," Denko explains. "The guild imposed for having sexual desire, the controlling male figures and oppressive language in the Bible all make me mad and that's just the beginning of its flaws in my opinion."
