21-year-old Slovenian pop artist and recent Berklee College of Music graduate Anja Kotar has today released her new single called "Kids", along with its accompanying music video. Full of symbolism and ingenuity, "Kids" encompasses the enjoyable false-reality of social media. The energetic pop instrumental is paired with darker lyrics in order to send that message of deceptiveness. Anja tackles the complexities of our digital lives with lyrical turn-of-phrase and visual symbolism, making "Kids" the perfect modern-day pop single.
"The music video features six different colored outfits and a correlating color flower for each of them," Anja tells The Line Of Best Bit. "The white background represents the cold, harsh reality of our world, while the flowers represent the fairytale we present online. Each flower has a meaning that describes a characteristic of the millennial generation."
Anja lists the meanings of each colour: pink for grace, blue for vanity, yellow for idealism, purple for capriciousness, red for affection, and green for rejection, before adding that, "throughout the video, I carry more and more flowers in my hands, alluding to getting caught up in the online fantasy and progressively exaggerating it."
