Following her feel-good electro-pop anthem "Down for the Ride", released late last year, rising Los Angeles-based electro-pop/R&B singer/songwriter Pontea (pronounced "Pon-ta") returns today with her scintillating new single called "What You Don't Know", which showcases some of her most vulnerable work to date while continuing to effortlessly fuse her Persian heritage into her music. Written by Pontea herself along with Nina Foot and produced by Gabe Lehner, "What You Don't Know" is a laid-back and soulful pop track that immediately captivates its listeners with its lush soundscape of R&B flavors, a kiss of electronic, and Pontea's classic vocals and trademark Farsi flow. Pontea consistently takes us into her unique yet familiar world of pop-centric infectious beats and rhythms while simultaneously breaking the mold of her culture, providing an empowered female voice:
"This song came from the painful place of giving my heart to someone who didn't see my full worth," says Pontea. "I stuck around, allowing myself to be tormented by a limbo between passion, distrust, and hesitation, surrendering to our faltered love. I never felt fully secure, or really quite enough around him. These are the confessional moments behind my thoughts, vacillating between dark uncertainty and then deciding to take my power back."
