Los Angeles-based dark-pop artist Zosia had today released her brand new single called "Matter", her first offering of 2019 following last year's widely well-received ode to sexual assault survivors, "Overthrown". A delicate fusion of electronic and pop with insightful lyrics about overcoming our anxieties, "Matter" went through roughly 4 years of development with many producers getting involved and lending their expertise to the track.
"'Matter' has gone through many transformations," says Zosia. "The chorus stemmed from a session with a pair of producers by the name of Caswell. I then worked on a full version with Stephen Lukach who produced 'Water.' Producer/mixer Leggy Langdon then helped reshape the structure and some of the beats. At that point I realized some of the chords didn’t fit, so I worked with James Gordon (producer of 'Overthrown') to flesh out the new elements. The process took about four years so I’m excited to finally be able to share the finished product."
Speaking on the inspiration behind the release, Zosia adds:
"The idea behind 'Matter' can be summed up in a quote by Elizabeth Lesser: 'How strange that the nature of life is change, yet the nature of human beings is to resist change. And how ironic that the difficult times we fear might ruin us are the very ones that can break us open and help us blossom into who we were meant to be.' There was a time when I was convinced the world would spin off its orbit at any moment. How could it still be following such fragile patterns after all these years? I had nightmares about this annihilation, and I was soon consumed by the fact that everything that brings us comfort and joy could be ripped away without notice. Not to mention we are contributing to the chances of our own destruction by harming the Earth. 'Matter' was a result of these logical yet often useless anxieties. I didn't realize that by pairing my morbid concepts with a relatively upbeat chorus melody, I began to reexamine my fears. No, we can't prevent ending, but we can choose to embrace the beauty of life’s ephemeral nature."
