Dreams - Feelings 4 U (EP)

LA producer Dreams has an apt name. He’s been mixing old soul and funk tracks – a lot from the eighties, in particular – to create unusually memorable beatscapes, considering that they’re generally devoid of lead singers or great harmonic variety. He has an ear for distilling the catchiest parts of the original songs into purer, shinier essences. Part of me wants more a traditional song structure in his pieces – something to give a more varied shape – but then again, part of his appeal is that dreamlike, relatively unfocused quality that allows you to simply sit back and let go into the song. I’ll say this, though – partnering with a quality lead would make his brand explode. X
