The Gildings - Sapphire

The Gildings, otherwise known as the moniker of English folk singer/songwriter, composition post-graduate and multi-instrumentalist Edmund Cottam has recently unveiled his new song entitled, "Sapphire".

Following a period of disillusionment with music, Cottam fell ill with a thyroid condition known as Graves’ Disease. A mixture of tremors, fatigue and anxiety forced him to retreat from writing and performing altogether. In late 2013, The Gildings spawned out of a period of convalesce and reflection, during which material primarily concerned with themes of ill health, Romanticism, mortality, and the beauty and brutality of nature surfaced. The songs showcase Cottam's genuine otherness, his disassociation with trends, and his entirely private world that lurches between the exquisite and the violent.

Cottam's Romantic balladry melds classical and folk traditions with contemporary influences, which married to his unique baritone and poetic lyricism, result in songs of profoundly, haunting beauty. Live, The Gildings are comprised of a group of established musicians hand-picked by Cottam himself.
