Lowki - F.A.C.E

Intoducing London-based alt-electronic outfit Lowki.

Since forming in 2014, Lowki and its members: singer-songwriter Sara, DJ/Producer Zeké, multi-instrumentalist Sam and drummer James (sorry, surnames unknown) have given birth to a genre-defying sound that combines infectious synth lines and resampled vocals with heartfelt falsetto melodies and dark bass tones.

After uprooting himself from the tranquil Devonshire countryside to study sound design in London, Zeké soon found himself immersed int he capital's party scene. He began frequenting underground house and techno parties run by his older cousin, who also owneda recording studio where Zeké quickly became a permanent fixture. It was within those walls where he overheard Sara recording for another producer. And, from here the two instantly ignited a creative spark and begun collaborating.

The underground heavily influenced Zeké's production and he'd already started to build a name for himself locally as a talented DJ and producer. At the same time Sara had decided to abandon the constraints of theatre to concentrate on crafting her passion as a singer-songwriter. The two began to forge their own unique sound, shaped by their respective influences of Dub, Hip Hop, Jazz and House music. Fast-forward a year later and Lowki was born, enlisting another two members: Sam, who was previously destined for a career in football and ex-Two Wounded Birds member, James. While the four don’t take kindly to comparisons, they have been likened to a mix of London Grammar and The XX, at the same time as evoking a feeling reminiscent of early Portishead.

Recently Lowki unveiled their debut single, "F.A.C.E", which blurs the lines between alternative electronica and relentlessly catchy pop. Its initially harsh yet minimal production composed of eerie pads, veracious beats, resampled vocals and dark bass tones is elegantly met with enticing falsetto melodies and heartfelt lyrics that refuse to conform to the same rigid formula of most contemporary music. Lowki are currently preparing for a busy year with a string of UK shows over the summer, as well as plans to release their debut EP, Abstract Intentions, due out this fall.
