Los Angeles-based pop artist Cuja has today released her debut EP, aptly titled Vol. 1.
The 4-song collection included her previously released singles "Maneater", "New Friends" and "Backseat" as well as a brand new track called "Don't Forget About Me." Cuja fuses elements of retro-pop with a fresh forward-thinking electro-pop twist into her music. If you dive into her lyrics, you'll notice she's quite the cheeky one, with her personality shining through every aspect of each song.
"The communication of emotions is the most important thing to me in a song," says Cuja. "Feelings come in all colors, shapes and sounds. I try to chase down the feeling and then create something from there."
Cuja's passion for music began at a young age as she spent most of her childhood traveling around the world in a touring choir, going everywhere from France to China. This experience cultivated not only her voice, but her sense of self (and her love of food). She's skilled in guitar, piano, and ukelele, and is currently teaching herself how to produce her own music.
She has a drive to succeed like no other, partly due to the lack of Asian-American representation within today's music industry. She felt a huge disconnect growing up as a mixed Asian-American child growing up in America. Instead of getting upset about the lack of diversity, Cuja decided to utilize her own voice and story, making it her goal to provide more opportunities for minorities and marginalized groups in music.
