mxmtoon - high & dry

18-year-old Oakland-based singer/songwriter and ukulele player Maia, aka mxmtoon (pronounced em-ex-em-toon) has today announced her forthcoming debut album titled the masquerade and with it comes the release of her brand new single, "high & dry", another excellent track showing mxmtoon's depth and vulnerability all at once. "high & dry" is also the second single from the masquerade and comes off the heels of her beloved instant classic "prom dress" where we see her as a songwriter skillfully offer a layered meditation on expectation and disappointment, blithely showcasing her self-effacing sense of humor. the masquerade will have two sides to it, one regular and then the other all acoustic versions of the same songs. mxmtoon has already connected with millions of fans across the world through social media, creating an organic and meaningful musical community.

"When I first started making music it felt like an escape from my day-to-day life, where I’d have to put on a mask to hide what I was really feeling," says Maia in reflecting on the title to the masquerade. "Writing songs was a way to express all the things I couldn’t talk about in face-to-face interactions, and share them with a community of people who maybe also needed to put up a façade to get through the day."
