Mike Skinner Retires the Streets
Earlier this year, British rapper, producer and multi-instrumentalist Mike Skinner announced he would be retiring the Streets -- the hip-hop project he's masterminded for more than a decade -- after his fifth album, 'Computers and Blues.'
That record dropped in February, and true to his word, Skinner played what is being called the final Streets gig last night (Nov. 26) in Skegness, England.
On a night that also marked the MC's 32nd birthday, Skinner followed his performance by inviting fans onstage for a goodbye drink, toasting a successful run that began with 2002's 'Original Pirate Material' and helped legitimize British hip-hop.
Skinner played his farewell show to a crowd of 7,500 fans at the Big Reunion festival, and now that his Streets days are behind him, he'll reportedly continue work on his D.O.T. side project with rocker Robert Harvey.
