Wynter Gordon - Stimela
After establishing herself as one of the most in-demand collaborators in the world of hip hop, pop and dance music, Wynter Gordon is stepping out on her own with a series of 4 EPs this summer called 'The Human Condition.' All available for free download, each EP represents a different emotion and showcases Gordon's enormous range as a composer and performer.
The first EP is titled "Doleo" (below), which means "pain" in Latin. The music marks a new artistic direction for Wynter, who tackles heavier lyrical content and more sophisticated arrangements than her dance/pop projects allowed. Despite the dark title, Gordon still manages to find the beauty in confrontation and the rays of hope in despair. "Stimela" was inspired by the Hugh Masekela anti-apartheid song of the same name, which Gordon performed with the South African legend at Carnegie Hall as a teenager. Sung in Zulu, the chorus packs a hefty emotional punch and roughly translates to "ride the train to freedom."
