Directed by Addison Wright and J. Frank, the visuals depicts an endearingly whimsical love story set against a sunny, 60s-chic aesthetic. Peppered with subtle hints of Little Shop of Horrors camp, the theatrics of Bjork's "It's Oh So Quiet", and John Hughes nostalgia, "Tommy" is a beautifully realized song-and-dance spectacle for music lovers everywhere.
While her previous EPs (2013's My Favorite Things and 2012's Metal Petals) always featured production by long-time collaborator Peter Cottontale (Chance the Rapper, The Social Experiment), RUBY will mark Lili's first time producing her own work.
"Creating this album was such an empowering journey," she explains. "I walked away from fears that were holding me back, and gave myself a new beginning. It was scary - to basically start over, by myself. But claiming my creative power and happiness was one of the most rewarding experiences I've ever had."During the month of February, Chicago fans will have TWO opportunities to catch the soul trap songstress live and in concert. On Saturday February 7th, Lili will join Sidewalk Chalk at The Metro. Then on Tuesday, February 24th, she will perform alongside KSRA at The Empty Bottle for a special charity concert. (More details to come soon) Additional US dates and SXSW activities will be announced in the coming weeks.
Many fans are already familiar with Lili's widely praised collaborations with Chance the Rapper, Vic Mensa, The O'Mys, Lorine Chia, BJ the Chicago Kid, MC Tree, and Thelonious Martin. Her feature work has topped numerous "Best Of" lists for Rolling Stone, NPR Music, Pitchfork, and Complex. She has also shared the stage with Musiq Soulchild, Dwele, and the SaveMoney crew at Lollapalooza, Pitchfork Fest, SXSW, CMJ, and throughout Chicago. Now Lili will take center stage once and for all.
Also be sure to check out her collaboration with The Jeff Gibbs Quartet on their rework of Disclosure and Sam Smith's global smash hit "Latch", which you can download here.
