Only Girl - Colour Me

With the success of first two singles ‘"Feel It" and "Remains" under her belt along with two sold-out headline shows and a highly-praised release with long-term collaborators Zero 7, South East London-based singer/songwriter Ellen Murphy, aka Only Girl returns with the release of her new EP, Young Blood, out today via Akira Records and supported by PRS Foundation for Music. The four-song EP includes her previously released singles, "Young Blood" and "Salvation" plus two brand new tracks, "Heavy Heart" and "Colour Me", a heartstoppingly beautiful love song that will send shivers down your spine. In an email, Only Girl tells us she wrote the song about "finding that one person who can make you stand still in the chaos of the world around you and make you appreciate what you have."

Young Blood sees Only Girl build on her unique brand of aching soul-imbued pop, replete with emotive synths, heartfelt, soaring R&B melodies and lyrics that balance beautifully between deeply emotional and comfortably nostalgic. The sucker-punch emotional power of the title track is immediately clear from the celestial choir vocals and heartbeat bass beats, to the devastating opening line; "So the last time you spoke to me, you said to me ‘my darling, oh I don’t have to leave."

Listen to "Colour Me" along with "Heavy Heart" below. And stream the EP in full here.

To celebrate the release of her new EP, Only Girl has also filmed acoustic versions of "Young Blood" and "Colour Me" (accompanied by members of London Contemporary Voices) for Red Bull's new See. Hear. Now. showcase series. As well as shared her background in music and songwriting process. Watch it here.
