Introducing Jamaican-born, Toronto-based future soul/R&B artist Mark Clennon, who has just shared his compelling new single entitled "Blood", which also serves as the lead single to be lifted from his forthcoming EP, When The Smoke Clears, due out on August 19th.
The EP was produced in collaboration between Mark himself and Montreal producer Joey Sherrett of rap trio The Posterz. Developed over the past year on weekend trips to Montreal, the duo fleshed out a handful of Mark's demos to create a wide-ranging, fully-formed project. And although Mark's father was a Trenchtown-bred sax player and his brother is a successful dancehall producer nothing about Mark's own music sounds particularly Jamaican but that's not him rejecting his roots, but rather an internal drive to find his own niche by pursuing unexplored territory. Mark's creative process is less about drawing on influences and more of a Rick Rubin-esque reduction. Whether that is by avoiding trap cliches or seeking out unique synth patches, Mark has a sound that's indeed all his own.
