Nashville-based pop singer/songwriter, Brit Daniels has today shared her first offering of 2019 called "Deja Vu", the follow-up to "Convince Me", released late last year. Packed with Summer-ready atmospheric beats, relatable lyricism, and hypnotic pop vocals, "Deja Vu" is a song you'll be eager to throw on repeat.
"Deja Vu" was co-written with Jonathan Perkins (The Chainsmokers, Pitbull, Cody Simpson) and delves into the trials and tribulations of modern dating culture. After going through yet another failed attempt at a relationship, Daniels was inspired to get in touch with her feelings and explore what went wrong. Through writing the song, Daniels realized all the red flags she ignored and noticed a pattern in her dating life. It was like a "deja vu," if you will. It's raw, honest, and relatable, not to mention a damn good pop song.
Speaking on the track, Brit says:
"'Deja Vu' has a very vibe-y, moody feel to it combined with catchy melodies. The day my co-writer Jonathan Perkins and I wrote this song, I entered the writing room with this idea because I was going through yet another failed attempt at a relationship. I was thinking about what was going wrong in that current situation, it hit me that I should have seen the signs. All the red flags were there and this particular guy was doing (or not doing) the exact same things that others had in the past, so I had been in a constant state of Deja Vu with this person. This song is definitely my favorite that I've released thus far, and it is as vulnerable as it gets because I lived it. Oh, have I lived it, and I feel like a lot of other people have to – especially in this current dating age that we live in."
Music has always been a constant in Brit Daniels’ life. Throughout her teen years she was performing in various talent shows and recording in local music studios, primarily singing about heartbreak and the woes of being a teen. But, when Daniels was a freshman in college the ultimate heartbreak occurred: her father passed away due to injuries sustained from a car accident while he was on duty as a police officer. Through this experience, Daniels started refining who she was an artist and the stories she wanted to tell.
Shortly after her father’s passing in 2017, Daniels started to release original music. She was able to persevere through the heartbreak, pumping out emotionally-charged pop singles that have resonated wholeheartedly with fans and tastemakers around the globe. She has also become a staple in the buzzing Nashville pop scene, co-writing with a number of Music City legends and performing at renowned venues such as The High Watt, Mercy Lounge, and The Back Corner. Brit Daniels is quickly establishing herself as a pop act to watch, both locally and globally.
