Kandace Springs - Love Got In The Way

First off I have to admit, it's not very often that the musical guest I see performing on a late night-talk show absolutely impresses the heck out of me, especially one who prior to seeing them perform on television is an artist I haven't heard of before. In fact, it's so rare that this happens that I can count the number of times it has happened on one hand. The artist i'm referring to is the beautiful and multi-talented singer/songwriter and pianist Kandace Springs, who tonight made her television debut on CBS's The Late Show with David Letterman.

Originally from Nashville, Tennessee but now living in New York City, Kandace Springs describes her sound as classic Soul meets classic Hip Hop. After singing an impassioned rendition of Bonnie Raitt's "I Can't Make You Love Me", Blue Note Records President Don Was found himself so stunned by her arrangement and performance that he offered her a record deal on the spot. And earlier this year, legendary artist Prince heard her cover of Sam Smith's "Stay With Me" online and asked her to perform at Paisley Park on the weekend celebrating the 30 year anniversary of his seminal album/film, Purple Rain. It was that same inherent soulfulness that had originally caught the attention of Carl Sturken and Evan Rogers at SRP, the production team that discovered and signed pop powerhouse Rihanna.

Kandace Springs is currently working on her debut solo album with co-executive producer Eli Wolf (Norah Jones) and a team of notable co-writers including Claude Kelly (Bruno Mars), Jack Splash (Cee-Lo), Pop and Oak (Alicia Keys), and Andre Harris (Jill Scott). The album will be released on Blue Note Records/Capitol Music Group in Spring 2015. In the meantime, she has just recently released her eponymous debut EP, which is and available on iTunes and Amazon. Check out the video for the EP's first single, "Love Got In The Way" below.
