Hannah Jane Lewis - Why Start A War

Introducing London-based singer/songwriter Hannah Jane Lewis, who has today unveiled her debut single called "Why Start A War", a sumptuous and extravagant first offering that also serves as the first track to be lifted from her debut EP, due out on June 17th.

Brought up in the cultural hot-bed of New York City, Hannah’s early exposure to the innovative and experimental creativity of the East Village, helped mould her into the artist she is today. Since moving back to the UK, a number of months and many late nights have been spent creating, and refining a sound of her own.

Vibrant synth-pop at its finest, "Why Start A War" is a huge statement of intent from the young artist. Sleek electronic-tinged piano chords guide the verses, with Hannah’s celestial vocals twirling around the triumphant rhythm section. Hannah incorporates elements of cinematic, theatrical songwriting, with thumping dance floor ready pop - creating something truly irresistible.

Navigating the complexities of relationships in her lyrics, Hannah’s sound seamlessly switches between dark, introspective undertones, and playful electronic pop. Letting her life influence her lyrics, Hannah's debut EP encompasses a variety of influences, sounds, and experiences - and will no doubt be the start of a very exciting year ahead.

Speaking on the track Hannah Jane Lewis says:

"'Why Start A War' is about when you really want to help someone you can see is struggling but they won't let you in. So you kind of have to watch them battle it out in their mind and just be there when its over, which can be hard when its someone you're close to’”."
