19-year-old singer/songwriter and actress Lia Marie Johnson has just recently released her debut single with Capitol Records called "DNA". A deeply personal song about her father's battle with alcoholism, Johnson co-wrote the single with its producer Howard Benson, co-producer Lenny Skolnik, and Sidnie Tipton.
Speaking on the track, Lia says:
"I was at a really hard place in my life when I wrote 'DNA'. It was my first time working with Howard, Lenny and Sidnie and as we got to know each other they started asking about my life. When they asked about my family, I started getting really emotional and at the end of explaining my life story I said, 'but I guess you can't stop DNA,' we all looked at each other and everything clicked. We got so excited and started writing immediately."
Lia first became known to the public via her YouTube channel, followed by roles in the Emmy-winning web series REACT, which is the most successful web series in history with close to 1 BILLION views. Last year, the San Diego native was named one of the Top 100 YouTubers in the world, and she currently boasts an actively engaged 1.6 million Instagram followers. An accomplished actress, Lia also starred in AwesomenessTV/Dreamworks Animation film Expelled opposite Cameron Dallas, and had the lead in the film Terry the Tomboy, which debuted on Nickelodeon to critical acclaim. This year she starred in American Wrestler: The Wizard with Jon Voight, the TV series T@gged, and young adult thriller The Thinning, which will be released on October 12th via YouTube Red. As of late, Lia has been busy in the studio working with various songwriters and producers preparing to release more music in the coming months.
