Hugh - I Can't Figure You Out

Based in South London, HUGH blend elements of textured R&B, deep house and 80's synth-pop to create their eclectic and distinct sound

The beating heart of this electro-pop outfit is the partnership of friends Andy Highmore and Joshua Idehen. A chance meeting in a London bar found the two discussing their mutual appreciation of Beach House's reverbs, Grizzly Bear's barbershop harmonies and the 90ʼs brilliance of Soul || Soul. With Joshua as prime songwriter and Andy focused on production and keyboard, the two fused their combined musical knowledge and experience to form HUGH. After recording their first demo ʻI Can Be Your Lightʼ, they recruited friend Martin 'Tino' Kolarides for guitar followed by singer Izzy Brooks lending her enchanting vocals to complete the band.

After gathering quite a bit of momentum from various music blogs with their previously released single "Look Back In Laughter", HUGH make a welcome return with the video for their new single "I Can't Figure You Out", directed by Eoin Glaister and the title track taken from their forthcoming debut EP (which you can stream it in full here) due out on July 21st.

Drawing from an eclectic mixture of music, this EP documents friendship, loneliness and love in ambient beatscapes and unembellished electronica. "The main idea behind HUGH and this EP was to combine my love of slightly left field electronic music with my love of great songs and catchy melodies and hooks" explains Andy, "the songs on this EP show the broad range of our musical interests in the band, from the house influences in 'Charlie' and 'I Can't Figure You Out' to the acoustic and ambient textures on 'I Can Be Your Light'."

Premiere via The Line Of Best Fit.
