Those with an eye on the cutting edge of both fashion and music know that Kitsuné (pronounced Kit-soo-nay) has made an international name for itself as an expert purveyor of both, with their fashion lines, retail outlets, and CD releases.
After exploding in Japan, expanding in SE Asia and steadily developing in France and Europe, Kitsuné felt it was time to get closer to the USA, and its many buzzing scenes, from strobe-lit basements to sun soaked festivals.
For the first time Kitsuné has compiled a quirky, eclectic selection of fresh new US artists. One album full of the stuff that we like most: good songs and big talents yet to be discovered, from indie bands to dance producers and whatever can fit in between.
Kitsuné isn’t new to incorporating tracks by US artists, but Kitsune America is the first stateside-artist-only comp.
“We look for the ones who have the potential to get bigger,” Loaëc says. “We’re not right all the time, but we’re trying to figure it out by digging into some artists we feel will come up, will come out with an album, will start to tour, and will become a success….I would say for me, I made it like kind of like a Kitsuné compilation with the same sound, with America as a filter.”
Kitsuné has already earned a reputation for curating killer cuts for their collections, but up until now, their releases have had a European focus. With the arrival of their New York store, though, it probably seemed like an excellent opportunity to unleash an album that plants its feet firmly on American soil.
